Dog-Days-Of-Summer Discount!

Here we are, deep in the dog days of summer, 2010.

Where does this term come from? The Dog Days (Latin: die-s canicula-re-s) are marked by the rising of the Dog Star or Sirius. In ancient times, it was thought that the Dog Star was responsible for the hot and heavy weather. The Compact Edition of the Oxford English Dictionary states that dog days are noted from ancient times as the hottest and most unwholesome period of the year.

Personally, I think this gives a bad name to dogs - and I am rather fond of my dog. Also, I find this time of year quite productive and fruitful - not at all unwholesome!

Therefore, I am pleased to offer the Dog-Days-Of-Summer Discount for all work completed and invoiced from July 2 through to July 31, 2010. This month's discount is 13%, in honour of my dog who is about to turn 13 years old. Yes, this offer is valid for all projects that are currently underway for this month.

Thanks to all who took advantage of last month's G20 Discount! Because of you, I acquired further experience in policy research and writing, executive re-branding, and management skills development. I look forward to whatever the remaining Dog Days of Summer have in store.

What kind of work might be in store, you ask? Here are some examples, drawn from my favourite projects in the last 12 months:

  • proposals for submission to government or private agencies
  • policy development, research and drafting
  • executive level resumes, bios or other personal brand collateral
  • requests for proposal (RFPs)
  • press releases
  • project documentation
  • presentations, or presentation coaching

Please note: My inventory of available hours becomes severely constrained as of August 23, 2010. If you have writing projects in mind, please try to book them prior to this time.

Is there strong ROI in hiring Liz?
You bet! Here are a few recent examples:

  • Presentation Prep: A client with deep industry experience and knowledge was presented with an opportunity to speak at a high-profile event. However, this client had a fixed 25 minute time limit in which to share her expertise. In three short sessions, we created a strong structure for her talk, fleshed out a few concepts, and identified appropriate audience interaction techniques. My client reports that she delivered a very well-received presentation, secured additional speaking engagements, and has acquired several new clients herself out of this effort.

  • RFP Management: A nationally-recognized organization needed support in the preparation of a complex RFP as well as assistance with the evaluation of the resulting submissions and presentations. The client reports that our efforts paid off and the resulting vendor selection has been a terrific fit for their needs.

  • Proposal Development and Recycling: A client needed a fast yet thorough turn-around time on a proposal in response to a short-cycle RFP. In less than a day, I was able to produce a detailed, structured proposal that gave my client entree into the next rounds of negotiations. I later learned that the structure that was provided for this proposal was being used within this organization as a template for quick-turnaround responses. When a client can re-use and re-purpose such work, many benefits are found, including savings (time and money) as well as the presentation of a clear, consistent message within the market. Much of what I produce is structured with exactly this type of recycling in mind.
