I acknowledge that I was born on the treaty lands of both the Anishinabek and Haudenosauneega Confederacy. I live on the treaty lands of the Anishinabek and Huron-Wendat. I work on the treaty lands and territory of the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation.

I honour with gratitude the land itself and the people who have stewarded it throughout the generations. We are all called to commit to continuing to learn how to be better stewards of the land we inhabit as well. I make this acknowledgement to …

  • Remember how I remain a benefactor of colonization in using this land.
  • Remember the people who are no longer here to tell their pre-colonial histories.
  • Begin the process of decolonization.

I understand that this gesture of acknowledgment is a step in my own education about the land and traditional peoples and to be reminded of how many of us continue a mindset of inequality unconsciously and consciously, passively and actively, in the present.
